I have had a great time creating and teaching our first ever Environmental Health course at Oregon Tech this winter. It is hard to cover this broad and diverse topic in just 10 weeks. So to diversify the topics covered, I had students do a communication project on an EH topic of their choice in the format of a video, podcast, or blogpost. I will post those blogs here later, but for now I would like to share the video and podcast projects. First, a group of students worked on the issue of wildfire and air quality in the Klamath Basin - a problem that is local, regional and global and links climate change, natural resource management, and public health! McKenna Armantrout, Ellie Quercia, & Cassidy Gosvener did a great job! Check out their video below! Next up is a podcast by Kylie Collom, Cathy Thomas, Samantha Bixler, & Alex Holland on the North Ridge Estates Superfund site which was contaminated with Asbestos several decades ago through some...shady...real estate deals. This site has an interesting and important link with Oregon Tech. Check it out on You Tube below. You can read more about this and every other Superfund site in the U.S. at the EPA Superfund website here https://www.epa.gov/superfund/search-superfund-sites-where-you-live

AuthorIt is a profoundly, complex, fascinating, and interconnected world we live in. As a parent, a teacher, and a scientist I am constantly a processing our world which is changing exponentially - whether it is climate change, big data, epigenetics, neuroscience, the multiverse, or the newest running shoes and SUP technology there is a lot to digest! I will use this forum as a canvas and sounding board for reflection. ArchivesCategories |
